Full rules
- A recent colour digital photograph taken within the last six months, in accordance with ICAO Doc 9303, in civilian clothing.
- Applying within Greece, the photograph is submitted digitally through the myPhoto service on gov.gr — printed photographs were accepted at the latest until 31 January 2026. Applying abroad, it is uploaded via the consular digital service or handed in printed on analog photographic paper.
- Printed photographs must be 40 x 60 mm without frame, on high-quality white photographic paper, not from ink-jet or laser printers, analysed at 1200 dpi or more, with no visible dots or raster.
- The entire face must be clear — from the jaw to the forehead and from one ear to the other — with no shadings on the background or the face and no sheens from reflected light.
- Looking straight at the lens with a neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open (not wide open) and clearly visible.
- Sunglasses and glasses with coloured lenses (Photo Gray, Photo Brown and similar) are prohibited; no reflections on lenses, and frames must not cover the eyes — better to remove glasses where possible.
- Hair must never cover the eyes, the eyebrows or any part of the face.
- No head cover, except for religious reasons — and then the facial characteristics from the jaw up must remain visible.
- Nobody and nothing else in the photo — no other persons or objects such as dolls or toys.

How is a Greek passport photo submitted now?
Inside Greece, digitally through the myPhoto service on gov.gr — printed photographs were accepted at the latest until 31 January 2026. Applying abroad, the photo is uploaded through the consular digital service or handed in as a 40 x 60 mm print on analog photographic paper.
What are the print requirements?
40 x 60 mm without frame — one of the largest passport photos anywhere — on high-quality white photographic paper, never from household ink-jet or laser printers, analysed at 1200 dpi or more with no visible dots or raster.
How recent must the photo be?
Taken within the last six months, in accordance with ICAO Doc 9303, wearing civilian clothing.
What are the face and glasses rules?
The entire face clear from jaw to forehead and ear to ear, no shadings or sheens, neutral expression with mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible. Sunglasses and photochromic lenses are prohibited, frames must not cover the eyes, and removing glasses is recommended where possible.
Does Greece publish a head height?
Not on the specification page we source — so the proportion we lay out is our own choice, sized to keep the jaw-to-forehead, ear-to-ear clarity the specification demands. The myPhoto digital-file parameters are published separately and we do not restate figures we have not seen.
Our own assumptions
- Since 1 February 2026 the domestic route is digital-only through myPhoto on gov.gr; the 40 x 60 mm print is for applications at consulates abroad. Our output prints exactly to 40 x 60 mm and follows the same geometry either way.
- myPhoto publishes separate digital-file specifications in a PDF on gsis.gr that we could not retrieve; we do not state digital pixel or size figures we have not seen.
- No head-height figure is published, so the 66% head proportion is our own choice, sized to keep the jaw-to-forehead, ear-to-ear clarity the specification demands.
- The specification names white photographic paper for prints; it does not name a background colour outright, so our background check accepts a plain near-white and we say this is our reading.
- The chin is measured by 68-point facial landmarks; the crown comes from the top of the cut-out outline. Assumed accuracy ±5%, calibrated only on synthetic fixtures.
Where the authority does not specify something, we say so rather than pretending it does. The points above are our engineering choices, not official requirements.
